SketchQuest: Choose Your Own Drawing JourneyAges 7 and up
All skill levels welcome!
This is not your average drawing class. SketchQuest is a creative, flexible experience designed to meet art students where they are—whether they're just starting out or have years of drawing experience behind them.
Each week, students will explore a new foundational drawing concept, such as composition, value, perspective, cartooning, or realistic drawing.
We’ll also work with professional tools like artist-quality pencils, pens, charcoal, and colored pencils.
What makes this class different? Students drive their own learning with a “choose-your-own-adventure” approach. After a short group lesson, artists choose one of three project paths that reflect their interest and comfort level: Exploring – Great for trying something new or building confidence.
Practicing – Ideal for artists with some experience who want to grow
Refining – A challenge for those ready to take their skills to the next level
There’s no pressure to pick the “right” level—just the one that excites them most. Art is a personal journey, and students are encouraged to follow their interests, even if that means starting a project and deciding not to finish it. The only requirement is that they try. Our creative studio environment is designed for freedom and focus.
After the group lesson students may spread out, listen to upbeat (clean) music provided, or bring their own with headphones while they begin their chosen project path. Completed projects are eligible for selection to be displayed at a public art reception and showcase.
This class emphasizes growth, not grades, and offers a space where curiosity, experimentation,
and expression are celebrated every step of the way.

Meet the Instructor!
Jocelyn Singleton
My journey with art began at age three, when I made my public debut, hired by The Boise Weekly newspaper to color their front cover—one of their first editions to go to print. I was paid in M&Ms, and I was hooked.
From there, art became the thread that wove through my life. I spent my early years perched on the lap of my graphic designer father, watching him create. I filled reams of printer paper with endless drawings. That love of illustration naturally evolved into a passion for graphic design, which I pursued at BYU–Idaho. Over the past 20+ years, I’ve worked in various professional design roles, both at the university level and within the community, honing not only my technical skills but also the ability to listen deeply and collaborate meaningfully.
Though I briefly explored a path toward Marriage and Family Therapy—drawn by my love of people and a natural inclination to listen—I found my true calling when I began homeschooling my children. What started as a simple desire to enrich their education led to the creation of summer art camps and classes rooted in fun, creativity, and wholesome content.
Today, I teach with a heart for both art and people. I shine most when I’m meeting children where they are, encouraging their growth, and helping them uncover their unique creative voices. My classroom is a space of safety, respect, and joyful exploration—where every child is seen, heard, and inspired.
